Welcome Home

1 Jun

I was gone on a two day, one night out-of-town trip this week. When I called home last night, Michaela cried because she missed me. It just about broke my heart. Today, on the flight home, my first flight was pretty delayed and I was worried I’d miss my second one. The one that would get me back to San Diego at 6:15. The one that would let me get home to tuck Michaela in, as I told her I would last night on the phone. It was uber stressful, but thankfully, I made my flight.

When I got home, Michaela was in the driveway, working on some chalk art. When she saw my car, she started jumping up and down, clapping her hands and flashing a giant smile at me. I hopped out of the car and she showed me her work, which was gorgeous and built around an “I love Mom” theme.

It’s hard to think of a nicer welcome home.
