Time Change

30 Nov

I had the time change as much as anyone, but it does have one silver lining.

Ever since it started getting dark at, oh, five o’clock, I have been watching Michaela intently to see how tired she is. Kindergarten is exhausting and she often doesn’t want to nap (preferring, if anything, a short “rest”), so sometimes she’s tired well before her 8 p.m. bedtime. Left to her own devices, though, she insists on going to bed at her bedtime or later.

Yesterday, fresh off a five-day-long vacation, coming down with a cold, and not having napped, she was wiped out. But she wouldn’t admit it, stubborn girl that she is. It was dark out and since Michaela can’t tell time, she never has any idea of what time it is. So last night I took advantage of the one good thing about the end of daylight savings time and put her to bed at about 7:20. She fell asleep quickly, proving my point, and I had an extra 40 minutes of blissful child-free time.
