Preschool

30 Jul

Before we moved, our plan was to move Michaela to preschool (from our beloved daycare) this December.  She’ll be 4 and at the top end of the group at daycare, and it’s time for her to start getting ready for the rigors of kindergarten.  And no, I’m not being facetious.  Kindergarten is very academic these days!  It’s not like the olden days when you spent most of your time learning how to share, doing circle time, and taking naps.

When we moved, though, we started thinking about making the switch sooner.  We LOVE our daycare.  Love it.  Can’t recommend it enough.  Michaela is like part of their family now and has learned so much.  She has blossomed thanks to our daycare’s loving care, and I feel very grateful that we were able to send Michaela there.  That being said, the location is now totally out of the way for us and means fighting traffic at drop off and pickup.

We looked at a number of preschools near our new house.  One had a great location but felt a little soulless.  One was amazing–I would do anything to be able to get her in there!–but it never has any openings.  Two options we heard good things about aren’t on the table because they’re religious (one Baptist and one Catholic), which I’m not on board with.  Our daycare providers recommended a place near us, and I heard “that’s a great school!” from enough other people that we decided to check it out.  Long story short, after a visit, we were offered a spot, and Michaela will be starting preschool in September.

I know it will be good for her.  I know it’s a great school (and one whose philosophy actually matches up really well with what Michaela’s used to from her current daycare).  But I’m so sad to be leaving the place that’s become Michaela’s home away from home!

Also, when did Michaela get to be old enough to go to preschool?!?
