Belly

Friday, November 27th, 2009

Here’s this week’s belly shot.  Today I am 33 weeks and 6 days along.  It’s hard to believe!  When I first found out I was pregnant and had terrible morning sickness, each day felt like a year.  Once I started feeling better, time started flying.  Now that we’re getting towards the end of the process, we’ll see what happens– time will either continue to fly or I’ll be counting the minutes until the baby’s ready to make her appearance in the world.

Turkey Day

Thursday, November 26th, 2009

My wonderful husband once again treated me (and my parents, who joined us) to a delicious Thanksgiving feast.  We had turkey, cranberry sauce and cranberry jelly, mashed potatoes, gravy, green bean casserole, stuffing, noodles, rolls and pumpkin pie.  All of those things, save the stuffing (Mike loves Stove Top), rolls and the pie (I love Costco pumpkin pie), were made from scratch.  It was a delicious, but labor-intensive meal!

Kiss the cook!  I wanted to, anyway, but as you can tell, Mike wasn’t really in the mood for it right then.   (Well, maybe he would have enjoyed a kiss, but clearly he didn’t like having his picture taken!)

The turkey.  Last year, Mike brined it, but this year, he just used a butter and herb/spice rub.  It was sooo good!

It wouldn’t be a day in the kitchen without Rey begging for morsels of yummy human food.  He spent quite a bit of the day in this position– watchful, waiting for someone to drop something.

Here’s a shot of what it looked like to me when I was keeping an eye on Rey.  That bump in the picture?  That’s my belly.

We end with a shot of the aftermath.

(Although technically, a picture of the real aftermath would show me laying on the couch, clutching my stomach, moaning about how I ate too much.  Rey would be stretched out next to me, and Mike would be relaxing, happy that he picked at the food throughout the day as he was cooking and thereby avoided my fate.)

Renovation Update

Thursday, November 26th, 2009

Mike has been hard at work doing demolition upstairs, and we’re getting closer to a place where we can get the drywall people here to start reconstruction of our new office and bathroom.  Woo hoo!  Talk about something to be thankful for!

Here are a couple of pictures showing the latest work.

He found some rotted wood in the floor, so there’s now a big hole in the floor.  That will be fixed soon.

We’re still trying to decide if we’ll leave the gas wall heater in or not.  Other options include taking it out and putting a new one in the same place, taking it out and getting an electric unit, or putting a new gas heater in some other location in the room.

Looking north, you can see the stuff that’s still in the room and needs to be moved to the garage for the project to be finished, and looking south, you can see (sort of– it was a little dark in the room) that it’s been cleared out.

And finally, here’s a look at a small debris pile.  This one is in the backyard, but there are others!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Belly

Saturday, November 21st, 2009

This week, I didn’t quite get around to taking a picture of my belly.  That said, Mike snapped a shot last night of me and my good friend Elyse, showing off our pregnant middles.  Some day, when our kids are friends and Mike is old and doddering, he will show them this picture and bore them with the story of taking it.

I can’t wait.

Here I am at 32 weeks, 6 days, and Elyse at 39-ish weeks.

New dresser

Thursday, November 19th, 2009

Note: I started this post on 9/28, but am late in publishing because while the dresser was constructed weeks and weeks ago, we didn’t have room to get all the drawers in until yesterday.  The room is still a work in progress, but I’ll post pix of the rest of the transformation from tv room to nursery soon.

Mike and I picked out a dresser to go in the baby’s room.  Very exciting!  We needed to do a few things to the room first, though, like taking out a door and putting in a wall where the door was.  (That’s another “we” that really means “Mike.”)

Here’s the drywall up and mostly mudded.  The wall will get additional coats of mud and then will be sanded, then primed and painted.

Then we headed to IKEA to purchase the dresser.  Mike was also in charge of putting it together, though I brought him beers and sorted the many, many parts.

Here he is hamming it up for the camera…

And here’s a shot of my handiwork.  I sorted all the screws and pieces into their own plastic bags.  The things I do to make life easier for Mike!

Slowly but surely, the dresser frame came together.

Then the drawers.  Then it was done!

We love it and are excited that this piece will hopefully be able to accomodate our little one for many, many years.

Tomorrow = 32 weeks.  Amazing how time flies.

I’m really glad I started taking these pictures.  Hope you enjoy them, too!

Speechless

Thursday, November 12th, 2009

It’s not often that I’m speechless.   I get paid to work with words, writing and serving as spokesperson, and I am a pretty opinionated gal, so I generally have something to say.  Today, though, I was shocked into muteness when my coworkers threw me a really sweet surprise baby shower.

This is the giant stork balloon that was part of the decorations at the shower:

I would say there were probably 30 people there, which is amazing, and everyone was incredibly generous in buying things to help get our little one’s life off to a comfortable, cute, warm start. As you can see below, we got loads of clothes, receiving blankets, a mobile, bath stuff, sheets, and more.

I didn’t expect anything, let alone so much, and it was such a pleasant (but shocking) surprise, especially since tomorrow is my last day at work!

I cried, of course, and tried to convey to everyone just how much I appreciated the thoughtful gesture.  It was a very  nice afternoon and I’m very thankful to the people who planned it, who attended, and who gave gifts or just kind words.  I’m really going to miss working there!

Rey’s bed

Tuesday, November 10th, 2009

Rey has been sleeping in our bed for nearly a year now.  It’s a habit that started when I started my new job and was going to bed and getting up really early.  Essentially, I’d get home late, exhausted, and go to bed within an hour or two of being home.  That didn’t leave a lot of time for Music-Rey bonding time, except snuggling in bed together.  At first, he slept at the foot of the bed, but he’s been creeping up closer and closer to me and Mike.  Lately, he’s decided to make an all out push for dominance and has begun settling in between the two of us.  It’s cute, I think (Mike is less enthused), and when I woke up the other morning to find Rey square in the middle of us, I had to take a picture.

(Unfortunately, Mike heard me turn the camera on and covered up his face.  He’s the giant lump on the left.  Rey also looks a little less than keen to have his picture taken, but oh well.)

Another week closer to baby time!

We went in for an ultrasound on Monday and were told either the baby is big or I’m further along than we thought.  Talk about nerve-wracking!  Can you imagine, thinking you’re 30 weeks pregnant (full-term is 37 weeks) and then finding out you’re 33 or 34 weeks?  All of a sudden, you could be only 3 or 4 weeks from having the baby, not 7 weeks.  That’s a big difference!

The doctor said the baby is just big and that she stands by the original due date.  So it looks like we still have time to get stuff done after all.  Stuff like procuring our crib, buying diapers, setting up the nursery, etc.  Important stuff!

In the meantime, the bun is still in my oven.  Here’s a shot of it this week (30 weeks, 5 days).
