Two, four, six, eight…

Yesterday was the 1st Annual “Mike Watson Appreciation Day.”  It’s a day where all of Mike’s adoring girlfriends do nice things for him in order to show how much they love all the nice things he does for them.  In our case, there was only one Mike Watson and one girlfriend, me.  That being said, we had a lovely time, enjoying a delicious dinner at Buca di Beppo and a walk around downtown.  We stopped into Borders and perused a great book on the history of San Diego, and window shopped at art galleries around the Gaslamp.  Don’t you wish you had your own appreciation day?!?

KPBS - The NPR flagship

We became members of KPBS today.  At the $60 level, we get a license plate frame, a KPBS fleece blanket, some kind of KPBS card that gets us 2-for-1 discounts at some places, and the good feeling of being a supporting member of Public Radio.

I haven’t supported public broadcasting since I left Denver in 1998.  (Incidentally, Brian Kinkel, Kim Johnson… thanks!  You launched a great career in Television!)  It feels good to be a pledging member again.

Now, count the days until I’m hawking public media again!  3… 2….

Livin’ La Vida Loca

The many, many readers of this blog have probably spent a lot of time wondering, “what do Mike and Music do in their spare time?”  Good question, dear readers!  One thing I (Music) do is go to school.  This week, I’ve had to be at SDSU four nights.  One thing Mike does is work.  He’s been busy working late, shooting with his new high def camera.  Exciting, huh?

Sarcasm aside, one thing I really enjoyed this week was serving as a co-guest lecturer in an Introduction to Public Relations class full of juniors and seniors at SDSU.  My friend and former co-worker, Erika, and I discussed our work backgrounds, the difference between doing communications in the pubic and private sector, ethics in p.r. work, and more.  The wonderful thing about presenting with Erika was that we know each other pretty well, so where one left off, the other could pick up.  It was also a great feeling to be approached afterwards by a student whose career goals match my actual experience.  Me, a role model!

Taking the expression “sacrifice for fashion” a step further, Jeffrey from “Project Runway” was just crying– CRYING– because Tim Gunn, the arbiter of all things “Project Runway” expressed faith in him.  Jeffrey was accused of having outside help in constructing some of the pieces he was to present at Olympus Fashion Week.  Luckily for Jeffrey, Tim believed him, causing the outpouring of emotion.  It’s a little odd coming from someone with huge tattoos wrapping around his neck.  Hard core, man.

Today, I had the good fortune to catch my friend Kristine online.  Kristine lives in Norway, so we don’t see each other often.  That makes phone calls and MSN Messenger chat sessions that much more important.  Kristine is a great friend who cheers me up when I’m down and celebrates with me when I’m happy.  I’m lucky to have a good friend like her.  Actually, I have a lot of good friends.  This includes Curtis, whose birthday I missed.  Bad, Music!

Happy belated birthday, Curt.  Now my wishes for you to have a great day will be enshrined on the internet.

And if anyone was wondering, I’m not that impressed by the new season of “Gilmore Girls.”  I miss Amy Sherman-Palladino!

Okay, that’s it for now.  I don’t want this to go too long, or I won’t be motivated to share my deep thoughts on the new season of “Top Chef.”  (If you were here, you’d see me doing my impression of Steven, a so-obnoxious-you-love-to-hate-him contestant from last season.  He has this odd way of bugging out his eyes, especially when he’s talking about how smart and talented he is).

Well manicured toes

oh Blog.. I’m sorry I’ve forsaken thee.

Musiccaab gave me the nicest foot massage last night, with a pedicure.  You may think that I’m not the pedicure type, and you may be right… but I’ve been rather grumpy recently, and it gives m’Love such pleasure to poke and prod at disgusting things on my body.

And when she suggested she give me a pedicure…I thought it sounded like torture.  But she looked so excited — I just couldn’t turn her down.

First, I soaked my toes (in the car wash bucket — is this how they do it at Burke Williams?), then she used sandpaper (something) to rub the dead skin off my ugly feet.  Then to the toenail clippers, and then some tool to dig gunk out from under the remainder of my toenails.

She’d switch feet, and command me to return opposing foot to the car-wash bucket… and the process would repeat.  (Mostly just the sandpaper and the gunk-picking.)

I will say, it wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be.  She only hurt me once, and she didn’t seem to take ANY pleasure in that part of it.  And, the rubbing and scrubbing part actually felt good.

Don’t expect to see me anytime soon at your neighborhood spa… but… I might let her have at ‘em on a regular basis.
